3/17 A bit of Art History: Claude Monet, Locomotives, Story Telling
Tuesday, March 17th - Art History, Culture, Geography, Space, Line, Color Theory.
Oh how lucky we are to be able to take a trip around the world and learn about other cultures right from our own home or classroom. That is how we grow as humans. We grow intellectually From experiences and accepting and learning of other cultures.
1. "The Gare - Saint Lazare" translate from French to English "The Saint Lazare Station"
by Claude Monet. I love this painting for a few reasons
1. Claude Monet was one of the first famous artists that I knew about as a kid. After I read about him in a book, then went to the museum and saw a few of his artwork, I felt a connection. Learning that he did not want to stay inside the studio to practice his art. He had other ideas for his work, he needed to go out into the world and paint a live moment in time.
2. He used perspective showing the rooftop going back into space and the buildings going back to an invisible vanishing point. He painted in the steam from the engine of the train with soft blues and purples and whites. This shows a moment in time that can never be recreated. The steam brings life into the picture, and you can almost hear the sound of the train coming in, feel and smell the steam, and people chattering as they crowd around for the train to stop. I wonder where they are going? To work? to School? To visit family?
If you were to imagine that you can go back in time, if you and your family were at this particular train station, in Paris France, can you tell a fantasy story about what you might be doing there? Would you be waiting for someone to get off the train or would you be going somewhere? I will go to google maps and see what is around this area and see where that train might take me.
Let's go!
