Independent Daily Reading (IDR)

Every day, students will have 30 minutes for IDR. Books can come from home or borrow from the library. This book should match their reading level and be something of interest to the student.  They also may keep a journal where they reflect on their reading using comprehension strategies.  It is important that student's always have at least 2 IDR books at school with them at all times.

Achieve3000

Students are required to read at least 4 Achieve3000 articles per month.  Achieve3000 articles are customized to be at a student's independent reading level.  After reading, students are required to complete the activity (multiple choice questions).  Articles may be read at home, but only activities completed in school will contribute to a Lexile adjustment. For more information about Lexile levels, click here.  At the beginning of each month, students will track their Lexile growth in a Google Sheet. I encourage parents and students to engage in a monthly discussion about growth and what behaviors contribute to continuous improvement.  Students can log in automatically with their Google account.

Exact Path

Exact Path combines adaptive diagnostic assessments with individualized learning pathways to promote growth for K-12 grade students in math, reading, and language arts.

Trade Books

Fifth graders read two to three novels per year. This year, we will be reading the novel Holes by Louis Sachar and Crenshaw by Katherine Applegate
