FAQs

Do you teach instruments in school?
My general music classes sometimes include us using percussion, boomwhackers, ukuleles or recorders. However, our focus is not always about playing music. Sometimes we focus on singing, critical listening skills, music theory and music history. Our school does offer a band program for 4th and 5th grade taught by Mrs. Pace.

Are there any private music teachers that you recommend in this area?
I have a list compiled with other music teachers in the school district. Please email me if you would like to view it. Also, please keep in mind that you may have to experiment with teachers that will best fit as a private instructor for your child.

How does grading work in music class?
I grade based upon rubrics. It could be a singing assessment, playing assessment or a written assessment. As long as your child submits there work by the ending of the marking period and shows an effort, they usually do fairly well in their music course.

How do I encourage my child to be more interested in music?
The quick answer to this question is exposure. Bring them to concerts, share music that you like with them, sing to them (even if you're afraid to) and try showing them more than one type of music. Not only will they eventually find what type of music they like but they will also become more aware of the world around them.
