- Keep food and drinks away from books
- Keep water bottles in an outside pouch of the backpack
- Keep art supplies (scissors, glue, markers, and crayons) away from books
- Keep books out of reach of babies and small toddlers
- Keep books out of reach of pets
- Keep books protected from the outdoor weather
- Don't dog-ear the pages (folding the corners back)
- Use a bookmark or sticky note
- Have clean hands while reading
